We recently took our 3 year old to Italy (MXP, Milan, Lake Como, Florence, MXP) and after several hours of research, I think we found the right combination of luggage and stroller (here’s our previous Italy trip before kids, and the top 5 things to do in Florence that we repeated for this trip).
Here’s a quick summary of our strategy.
For the airport: check the stroller in a bag like this, and use the Micro Luggage Easy.
- Much like the train, the Micro luggage is easy hop on and hop off. If you add this iPad holder, it will loop around the luggage so they can watch their favorite show – something you’re going to need while you wait in line for passport checks.
For trains: put the stroller away in the bag (wear this as your primary backpack, and put your other one in front of you) and use the Micro Luggage Easy.
- Works well on escalators
- Easy to get in and out
- Fast to get from the luggage rack and expanded for use
For the streets: use the Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Ultra-Compact Travel Stroller, Jet.
- No issues on cobblestone and uneven streets and even gravel
- Retractable sun cover was great for rain as well as bright sun during naps
- Minimal storage, but it’s better than nothing
- Easy to jump up and down from street to curbs which you’ll find yourself doing a lot
- Reclines (which you want if you’re going to be out during the day) to allow child to sleep when you’re out (worked about 50% of the time for us – much more effective to head back home for a nap)
