Start here – Google Maps List: Florence 2018
I’ve put together a Google Maps list of all of the highlights from my trip in May 2018 where I stayed in Florence for a week! I hope you find this information as deliciously helpful as I did!
1. Eat (gelato, pizza, panini, Florentine steak)
The highlight of my trip was when I spent a day wondering from gelato shop to gelato shop. In all, after the day was over, I had visited 7 gelato shops out of the 20 that I targeted. The following day I rounded out the top 10 by visiting 3 more. Each gelato shop is a little different – some offer very rich chocolate, some have pieces of nuts or fruit. Check out my Google Maps list for some of my favorites including some from the pictures below!

Aside from the ice cream, you need to make sure you have the Florentine steak (cook medium as per the chef’s recommendation). I also found a unique sandwich place close to the Uffizi that did not disappoint!
RESERVATIONS FOR DINNER
Be sure that you reserve your place at restaurants at least 2 days in advance. I have seen the sad look on people’s faces when they are unable to dine in because the restaurant is full. Some restaurants offer online booking, while others require you to call in.

2. Take a cooking class
Book a gelato and cooking class at WalkAboutFlorence (same link, but through TripAdvisor). I’ve never had so much fun and learned this much on vacation. Both the pizza making class and the gelato are the best thing I have ever made.

3. Check out the Galileo Museum
One of the best science museums I’ve ever been to! Rich in history and endless amounts of cool gadgets that have changed the course of history are inside of these walls.
You don’t need to reserve tickets, I waited about 10 minutes to get my ticket.

4. Take pictures of picture frames at Uffizi

Taking a photo of a painting – everyone does it. Do something unique after gazing at the wonderful art in the Uffizi. Take a picture of the amazing frames used to house each painting.

Definitely don’t just show up here. Get a skip the line pass with a tour! It gets you in much faster and you have an expert art historian to walk you through the highlights. Make sure you follow the instructions on the voucher to meet up with your guide.

This is my favorite picture from my trip to Florence for many reasons, the most humorous is that Wikipedia has a much higher quality version than the one these people took.
5. Check out the many views that the city has to offer
As mentioned in the best views of Florence, the best spot is on top of the Duomo, but both the Boboli Gardens and Piazzale Michelangelo are less effort and offer a different perspective.
